A person can be a rightist or a leftist based on their ideology. Right wing is characterized by an emphasis on “notions such as authority, hierarchy, order, duty, tradition, reaction & nationalism”. Whereas left wing is characterized by an emphasis on ideas such as liberty, equality, fraternity, rights, progress, reform & internationalism.
This ideology is reflected in the support or opposition to the CAA and NRC in India. Right wing supports government on NRC And CAA and left wing opposes NRC And CAA.
NRC is an official record of those who are legal Indian citizens. It includes demographic information about all those individuals who qualify as citizens of India as per the Citizenship Act, 1955. The register was first prepared after the 1951 Census of India and since then it has not been updated until recently. NRC was created for Assam in 1951, And it has been implemented for the state of Assam between 2013-2014. To identify the illegal migrants (Determination by Tribunal) Act was passed by the Parliament in 1983 in Assam. However it was struck down by the Supreme court as unconstitutional in 2005, after which the Government of India agreed to update the Assam NRC. The government has planned to implement the Act for the rest of the country in 2021.
According to the ruling party in India, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) the citizens living in India should have a proper identity which can prove them as a citizen of India. Those citizens who fail to prove themselves as an Indian citizen will be kept in detention camps. The President of BJP Amit Shah in his rally in West Bengal stated “Bharatiya Janata Party government will pick up infiltrators one by one and throw them into the Bay of Bengal.”
Amit Shah tweeted “ First, we will bring Citizenship Amendment Bill and will give citizenship to the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jain and Christian refugees, the religious minorities from the neighbouring nations. Then we will implement NRC to flush out the infiltrators from our country.” [1] In this statement, he clearly mentioned all the minorities except the Muslims, which shows the religious discrimination with Muslims under the name of NRC. This shows that the current Indian Government has an ideology which is rightist and doesn’t believe in the principles of Equality and Secularism of the Constitution.

Protests are being carried out in the country in order to stop the CAA and NRC by people who are against the right wing ideology.
I support the ideology of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. So I am also a leftist. I am also a part of the protests that are being carried against NRC and think that it shouldn’t be implemented in India.
What are your thoughts and Ideology??
